1940, 1944-49, Presiding Clerk, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
1941, Visited Europe under AFSC to carry out an unofficial study of food-flow to occupied zones and of ways to bring peace.

1943-67, Member, Haverford College Board of Managers. (Emeritus, 1968-d.)
1948, May, Travelled to Palestine on United Nations appointment as Municipal Commissioner for Jerusalem. June, Returned to U.S. because heavy fighting prevented his assuming duties as Municipal Commissioner.
1950, Visited Yugoslavia and Greece on a Cold War fact-finding mission for AFSC.

Member, Germantown Monthly Meeting, Philadelphia; Law firm of MacCoy, Evans, and Lewis of Philadelphia; Phi Beta Kappa. Legal Counsel to Haverford College Board of Managers. Generous contributor to Haverford College.
