Shamokin Preparative Meeting Records

A meeting for worship for Catawissa and Roaring Creek was organized in 1787 by Exeter Monthly Meeting under the care of Maiden Creek Preparative Meeting. A meeting for worship and a preparative meeting, also alternating between Catawissa and Roaring Creek were established in 1794 by Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting under Exeter Monthly Meeting. In 1795, the meetings became part of the newly-established Catawissa Monthly Meeting. From 1801 to 1808, separate preparative meetings were held at Catawissa and Roaring Creek. In 1808, the meetings were again combined and then transferred to Muncy Monthly Meeting, at the discontinuance of Catawissa Monthly Meeting. In 1814, these meetings were transferred to Roaring Creek Monthly Meeting. About this time, it appears that the combined meeting for Catawissa and Roaring Creek was again divided. After the Hicksite Separation of 1827, two branches of this meeting emerged. The Orthodox meeting for worship and preparative meeting were discontinued in 1829; their members were transferred to Muncy Preparative Meeting. Catawissa Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was discontinued in 1849; its members were attached to Berwick Preparative Meeting
