Biographical / Historical
The Quarterly Meeting at Curles became the Upper Quarterly Meeting. However, it is unclear when the Upper Quarterly Meeting was first organized. It is known that the Meeting House at Curles was used by this quarterly meeting between 1699-1704. Upper Quarterly Meeting was composed of Henrico-Curles and Cedar Creek Monthly Meetings. South River Monthly Meeting was also under the care of Upper Quarterly from 1757-1797, and Goose Creek from 1794-1797. In 1797, Western Quarterly Meeting was set up for South River and Goose Creek Meetings. By 1814, Goose Creek Monthly Meeting was discontinued and membership joined to South River. Western Quarterly Meeting was discontinued in 1817, and South River was again subordinate to Upper Quarterly Meeting.
The Upper Quarterly Meeting dissolved when the Virginia Yearly Meeting was laid down in 1843, and their records were turned over to the clerk of the Virginia Half-Years Meeting.
